Mission

Chittaranjan Park Bangiya Samaj headquartered at the Bangiya Samaj Bhavan, Chittaranjan Park, is a premier socio-cultural organisation of Delhi set up in 1970. The Bhawan itself is built upon a half-acre plot of land allotted by the Government of India in Chittaranjan Park. The Samaj has been regularly contributing to the society in the fields of Art, Culture, Sports, Education and Vocational Training, especially for the economically weak. This includes educating underprivileged children, operating medical camps, carrying out initiatives for senior citizens, creating health awareness programs etc.

Some of our cultural and social initiatives are:

  1. Support for art and culture activities to showcase and propagate the rich cultural heritage – Our signature cultural events includes Poush Mela which is in it’s 5th decade, and is a cultural event over a period of 3 days in the tradition promoted at Shantiniketan by Nobel Laureate Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore’s, which is an embodiment of cultural heritage of India. Budding creative people from all domain perform and showcase their talent. Other significant events we have are Rabindra Jayanti, Literary Festival, Drama competition and festivals and Samajer Chaad, an unique platform for budding talents, not ready for big stage yet to perform in front of smaller audience to get ready for bigger stages later.

  1. Educational Support System for underprivileged children –Bangiya Samaj had been conducting remedial classes and skill development like computer, English etc. training classes for underprivileged children. Bangiya Samaj had re-launched its educational support system for the underprivileged in a much bigger way after the pandemic induced disruptions, covering the following:

  • Free Tutorial and coaching classes for students to help improve their standards. The Samaj premises has necessary space for class rooms for these purposes.
  • Provide financial support in the form of scholarships, to buy text books, stationary items for education, supplementary books like guides, books for competitive examination etc.
  • Financial help in buying school uniforms, educational kits etc.in needy and deserving cases.

  • Extracurricular activities and beyond for them to impart fun and pleasure in learning.

  1. Community Medical Support Unit (CMSU) – Covid 19 pandemic has taught us many lessons over the past couple of years. We have lost a number of our near and dear ones, in some cases for sheer lack of basic medical support system like oxygen etc. While most of the arrangements to strengthen the healthcare system needs to be initiated and organized by the Government, there are also multiple initiatives that needs to be be taken at the community/ local level to provide relief and improve access to treatment. In Chittaranjan Park, our Bangiya Samaj has decided to come forward to bridge this gap. Initially in the immediate phase the CMSU is providing the following services.
  • Oxygen Concentrator machines
  • Oxygen Cylinder
  • Pulse Oximeter

The scope of services of the CMSU is being continuously expanded in future phases to areas like medical consultation support guidance of renowned physicians, sharing validated information on medical care services etc.

  1. Regular Medical Camps for the underpriviledged and elderly – Physicians in every specialization has been brought under the umbrella to conduct these camp over a day or two covering underpriviledged and elderly people. Setting up labs, bringing in portable analysing and test equipments and getting tests done and reports delivered at the venue. These are conducted atleast once a month and covers atleast 2/3 specialisation in one single camp so that hundreds are cared for in one single camp.

  1. Handloom Fair – Providing platforms for weavers, artisans and manufacturers from all over India and neighbouring countries like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal for showcasing their talents and selling their products. This is done in prefestival time of where people buy a lot and it runs for 21 days to maximise sell for these weavers and artisans. This has been very popular and much awaited fair for last 40 years.

We also do other regular activities in our campus and outside which are

  • Promoting environmental awareness – Working with different resident welfare associations, undertake activities for raising environmental awareness of residents by providing people with plants which bring down pollution, encouraging planting trees and maintaining them, restoring/ preserving old trees etc.
